Strawberry Protein: How It Tastes and How It Mixes

Strawberry is the lightest flavour in the range, and that is mostly a question of what you mix it with. Here is what it is like to drink and what a serving contains.

A Lighter Flavour

Biotic’s Gain Strawberry Whey Protein Isolate is closer to a strawberry milkshake than to fresh fruit, but it is a good deal less sweet than the dessert flavours. If salted caramel or cookies and cream have been too much for you in the past, this is the one to try instead.

Mixing It Cold

Fruit flavours are better cold, and this one is no exception. Shaken with ice-cold water it stays thin and clean-tasting. With milk it becomes a proper milkshake and the strawberry softens. It also blends with frozen berries or banana without either flavour fighting the other.

What Is in a Serving

One serving contains 25g of protein. Against a daily protein figure of 100g, one drink is a quarter of the day; against 130g it is closer to a fifth. Made with cold water, the serving carries the powder’s own calories only; blended with a banana and 300ml of milk, you are adding roughly 250 calories of fruit and milk on top. Those are simply the contents of the glass.

The Wording We Are Allowed to Use

Only the authorised Great Britain wording may be used for protein, and all four of its claims are quoted here: protein “contributes to a growth in muscle mass”, protein “contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass”, protein “contributes to the maintenance of normal bones” and protein “is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children”. Those claims apply to protein as a nutrient in any food that is a source of protein, whey isolate included. There is no authorised claim for whey itself.
