Vanilla Protein: A Neutral Base and How to Mix It

Vanilla is the flavour people buy when they do not want the powder to decide what everything else tastes like. That neutrality is the whole point of it, and it changes how you use it.

Why Vanilla Is the Neutral One

Biotic’s Gain Vanilla Whey Protein Isolate sits under other flavours rather than arguing with them. It goes into coffee, berries, mango, oats and pancake batter without any of those tasting of vanilla afterwards. Chocolate and salted caramel cannot do that; they bring their own flavour to whatever they are in.

Water, Milk and the Numbers

Mixed with water, a serving is essentially the powder’s own calories and nothing else. Mixed with 300ml of semi-skimmed milk, you are adding roughly 150 calories and about 10g more protein to the same drink; with whole milk it is nearer 190 calories. Neither version is better than the other. They are different numbers, and which one you want depends on what the rest of the day looks like.

What Is in a Serving

One serving contains 25g of protein. Against a daily protein figure of 110g that is a little under a quarter of the day in one drink. Whey isolate is also low in lactose, which is a composition fact about how the powder is made rather than a claim about what it does.

The Wording We Are Allowed to Use

The authorised Great Britain wording for protein is that protein “contributes to a growth in muscle mass”, that protein “contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass”, that protein “contributes to the maintenance of normal bones” and that protein “is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children”. Those claims are for protein as a nutrient, in any food that is a source of protein, and whey isolate is one. Nothing is authorised for whey specifically, so nothing is claimed for it here.
